FOC Award Tools - Help and Documentation

Back to the main website

This is a list of questions that users asked or might ask. It's a work in progress and it will be extended over time.

How to I create an account?

The login form is the same as the signup form. Which means on your first visit, you will simply enter your callsign and a password of your choice, which will then become your permanent password.

Where do I find the rules for the club awards / trophies?

On the FOC website and in the Year Book.

Except for the All-Band Challenge Trophy (which can be applied for on the website), the applications need to be sent to the respective award managers by email.

How are different callsigns handled? I made QSOs with a different callsign and want them to count for me.

All logs you upload are credited to the account you are logged in with, regardless of the callsign you made the contacts with. This means you can upload your ADIF files from portable, holiday or DXpedition operations just like those from your home station. They are all merged automatically. For FOC awards, what is relevant is the operator who made the QSO, not the callsign (only exception: G4FOC QSOs).

How can I make QSOs with members on DXpeditions count?

Many additional (individual) member calls are already in the database and will be recognized automatically. If a contact is not counted, there are two options: Either enter the homecall or FOC number of the operator in the comment field of your logbook in the format:

FOC:DJ5CW
or
FOC:1796
(no spaces, all upper case). Alternatively, just enter the contact manually in the "Enter QSOs" tab. Make sure you enter the FOC number (pre-filled for known calls) and the correct membership status (M for member, A for associate).

How is the QSO length for Quarter QSOs counted?

By default, the difference between the time_on and time_off ADIF fields is evaluated. In case your logger doesn't support logging start end end times, you can specify the QSO length in the ADIF comments field, in the following manner (for example if the QSO lasted 23 minutes):

QLEN:23

Uploading the logs is very slow!

Depending on the current load on the server and your internet connection, uploading and processing 1000 QSOs takes about one minute. It is recommended to split up your log into smaller chunks if it's very large. Most logging programs will allow you to export ADIF logs by date, so it would be a reasonable idea to upload logs year by year.

Can I upload multiple files at once?

Yes, in the file open dialog, simply select more than one file by clicking on them while keeping the Ctrl key pressed.

How do I make sure a contact counts for the right state for FOC WAS?

Unless otherwise specified, US calls count for the state of their FCC address. In case of out of state operations, you have two options:

  1. Set the state in the ADIF file. Most loggers support this, or otherwise just take a text editor like Notepad and add e.g. <state:2>ND into the QSO information
  2. If you already uploaded the QSO, log in on foc.telegraphy.de, click on the "Edit QSOs" button, enter the callsign of the QSO partner in the callsign field and hit the "Search" button. A list of your QSOs with this station appears (if there were more than 100 contacts, only the first 100 are shown and you may want to filter further by band or date) and in each entry you can manually change the state from a drop-down list. Make sure to hit "Save" on each QSO line you changed.
